What is a Power Cord Cable?
Definition of wire and cable:
Wires and cables are used to transmit electric (magnetic) energy, information, and wire products that realize the conversion of electromagnetic energy. In a broad sense, wires and cables are also referred to as cables for short. In a narrow sense, cables refer to insulated cables, which can be defined as a collection composed of the following parts: One or more insulated cores, and their respective possible covering, overall protection, and outer sheath. Cables can also have additional uninsulated conductors for the transmission of electrical (magnetic) energy, information, and wire products for the conversion of electromagnetic energy.
The basic structure of wire and cable:
1. Conductor: An object that conducts current, and the specifications of wires and cables are expressed by the cross-section of the conductor.
2. Insulation: The outer insulation material is based on its withstand voltage.
Classification of wire and cable:
1. According to the voltage level:
(1) Low-voltage cables: suitable for fixed laying on transmission and distribution lines with AC 50Hz, rated voltage 3KV and below for power transmission.
(2) Medium and low voltage cables: generally refer to cables of 35KV and below, such as PVC insulated cables, polyethylene insulated cables, XLPE insulated cables, etc.
(3) High-voltage cables: generally 110KV and above cables, such as polyethylene cables and XLPE insulated cables.
(4) Ultra-high voltage cables: 275-800KV cables.
(5) UHV cables: 1000KV and above cables.
2. According to the insulating material:
(1) Oil-impregnated paper insulated power cables are power cables insulated with oil-impregnated paper. It has the longest application history, safety and reliability, long service life, and low price. The main disadvantage is that the laying is limited by the drop. Since the development of non-drip impregnated paper insulation, the problem of drop limitation has been solved, so that oil-impregnated paper insulated cables can continue to be widely used.
(2) Plastic insulated power cables are power cables whose insulating layer is extruded plastic. Commonly used plastics are polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, and cross-linked polyethylene. Plastic cables have a simple structure, are convenient for manufacturing and processing, are lightweight, convenient for laying and installation, and are not limited by laying drop. Therefore, they are widely used as medium and low voltage cables and have a tendency to replace viscous-impregnated oil-paper cables. Its biggest disadvantage is the existence of dendrite breakdown, which limits its use at higher voltages.
(3) The insulation layer of rubber-insulated power cables is made of rubber plus various compounding agents, which are extruded on the conductive core after full mixing and vulcanized by heating. It is soft and elastic, suitable for occasions with frequent movement and a small bending radius.
